There may not be an immediately obvious link between mobile data capture and tennis, but here at PLM Global we have managed to combine our love for both, having been given the great privilege of sponsoring Avon Tennis for a 5 th consecutive year.
Through collaboration with Access Sport, we have been able to secure additional funding this year which will go towards the inclusive tennis initiative. The extra sponsorship fund will supply a 6-week block of sessions designed specifically for families with children who have special needs, allowing them to enjoy tennis sessions together.
Avon Tennis has a strong belief in inclusivity and The Open Court Network provides just that. During the 6 week period, children and young adults with special needs and disabilities have the opportunity to be part of the (LTA) ‘Tennis for Kids’ – a programme in which children up and down the country can participate.
Helen Abbott, the Open Court Network lead for Bristol said:
“Families with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) don’t always get the opportunity to play together. The response to the pilot sessions has been great and all of the parents were so surprised at how well engaged the children were.”
The sessions have been very well received by both the children and their families alike. A parent who took part in the pilot thanked us saying:
“I wanted to say how lovely it was and how all of the needs of those attending were met. The activities suited my youngest child who has autism and it was great for our whole family to be doing an activity together and enjoying it. It was well organised, and my children learnt new skills today, so thank you for a lovely couple of hours.”
The day to day business of PLM Global involves the supply, repair & maintenance of Barcode & EPoS equipment, so there’s not normally a racquet or tennis ball in sight! Having a Head Office in Bristol -home to Avon Tennis – we have always been aware of the amazing work they do, and we are therefore very pleased to pledge this money for what will be our fifth year of support now.
Our Sales Director, Shane Watson, summed up how we all feel about the initiative when he said:
“Even though we already work with Avon Tennis, hearing all of the feedback from the previous inclusive tennis sessions made us want to get involved! This is a worthwhile cause and it’s great to know that we are helping to support the provision of these inclusive sessions so families can enjoy spending time together.”
